Why Do I Need WordPress Website Maintenance?
It’s Not Maintenance. It’s Care, Management, and Support.
It’s Peace of Mind.
Your website is an open door to your customers.
It’s ready to help 24/7.
It communicates your brand and, essentially, is an investment and quite possibly your profit source.
It’s a crucial part of your business.
- Your website is an investment, but you can’t spend all of your time thinking about your website.
- Websites need tender loving care… consistently.
- Today, websites are more technical and complicated than ever. If left alone, can become vulnerable.
Your website is a crucial part of your business.
Your custom website design is a crucial part of your business.
Consider, now, that you’ve left the door open for your business.
Not on purpose. We are all busy and have other parts of our busy, small business lives that we have to look after. There is the accounting. There are the contractors and employees. Then, the actual service you provide.
You hired a web designer to build a website. It’s gorgeous. It works. It attracts the right people. You are psyched!
Your Website Is On Your Mind
But it’s in the back of your mind. You know you need to take care of it.
Like any storefront, you need to keep the doors closed. Locked at times.
You need insurance and a backup plan in case something happens.
You need to keep the shelves stocked or, in most of my client’s cases, services constantly improved and customers to attend to.
But your team is busy. The sales staff is working hard. Your IT contractors are concerned about the network.
Then, something happens.
It gets hacked!
Or … A script breaks because the computer gets updated with new technology.
Or … You realize after 6 months, no one has updated the website.
All Software is Vulnerable.
Software needs updating. All software. Including the software that powers your website. As technology evolves, website software is constantly being updated to make it more secure, faster and more visible to search engines. Just like your Microsoft operating system and your smartphone’s software need updating, so too does your website’s core.
Hackers, everyday, are trying to find a way to get into your website and insert malware. (Checkout the various types of infections, https://www.howtogeek.com/174985/not-all-viruses-are-viruses-10-malware-terms-explained/)
If they find a single vulnerability on your website … BAM! So long clean, pretty website.
Set and Forget It? No.
See, websites are no longer a “set and forget” part of your business.
As mentioned above, technology is always evolving.
Then there is Google. Yes, the ever-present, make it or break, search engine. They love an updated website. They love to see a website with content and growth.
By the way, when was the last time you made a positive change to your website?
Do It Yourself?
Keeping your website updated can be a tedious, time-consuming, and, frankly, complicated job.
Yes, your new website can be updated by you and your team. And we highly encourage this! Add a blog, update a service, change a frequently asked question, embed a video, add a new customer review, are all things that can be done to keep your website up-to-date.
But it’s backend work that gets scary for some folks.
“My Webhost Said They’d Take Care Of It.”
If fees for your web hosting are below $5, then your web host is not taking care of your website. It’s a lovely thought that, for a cheap fee, you have a place to park your website. But, if your website goes down, they will not help you. Typically, the cheaper hosts are not backing up your website or watching out for malware. Those might be add-on fees.
I’ve experienced hacked websites that included malware checking, but no one turned it on.
Well, there are few other reasons not to use cheap hosting, but we understand how enticing it can be. We can certainly recommend one or two hosting companies that are priced in the $10+ range. (Just please, for all that is good in the world, don’t use GoDaddy and Network Solutions hosting.)
Your Investment Deserves More
Your website is a crucial part of your business and, therefore, requires extra care to make sure it continues to perform its functions.
Daily Off-site Backups
We work with Amazon and use their S3 servers to keep all of our websites backed up, remotely. It’s a sure fire way of backing up remotely and making sure we are not relying on our web host. We keep up to 10 daily and weekly backups. We’ll back up your entire site so you don’t have to worry about losing valuable data ever again.
Weekly Traffic Reports
As part of our reporting, we include a synopsis of your weekly traffic reports. These reports will tell you how many visitors you’re getting, where they’re coming from and more.
Using systems like UpTime Monitoring, we can be sure that your website is up and running. Every hour we ping your website. If it goes down, we ping it every 5 minutes until it goes back up again. At most times it is the server getting rebooted, other times, it might have been a lapsed domain or a hacker.
The insurance of websites are the backups but things still happen. As much as we do our best to keep everything in tip-top shape, nothing is guaranteed. For those times, we can help put it all back.
WordPress software updates can be an intimidating process, even for the experienced user. The WordPress core is constantly being maintained and updated with the latest security features. Plugin authors are always looking for new features and security is top of the list.
Did you know that at least one of your plugins will need to be updated daily?
